Approximately fifteen years ago, the emergence of the term “big data” sparked
a global surge of interest in statistics. Since then, the idea that data
utilization can address socio-economic challenges—exemplified by digital
transformation (DX) and data-driven management—has rapidly spread across
academia and industry. Today, generative AI and large language models (LLMs)
are having profound impacts on our society, economy, and daily lives.
Amid this data-driven era, Japan faces a key challenge: the difficulty
of translating the use of big data and AI into tangible service innovation.
In addition, the country continues to lag behind other nations in AI research
and development. We believe that effectively leveraging big data and AI
is essential for improving productivity, fostering innovation, and supporting
sustainable growth.
The Service Data Science Research Center develops advanced methodologies
for analyzing large-scale, diverse, and complex data by integrating data
science with economics and management. As a hub for data science in these
fields, we promote industry–academia collaboration, share research成果 through
symposia, and advance “AI for Science” in economics and management.
We are committed to contributing to society by creating new knowledge and
driving innovation.
